Dear Parents and Carers,
Following the Government’s announcement I feel it is necessary that I write to you to update you on the schools current position regarding keyworker and vulnerable places. I am aware each week of homeschooling is getting harder and harder for all of you whilst juggling working at home. The latest announcement confirming that schools will not open to all pupils till at least 8th March will now be adding more stress and pressure onto you all. I want to start by thanking you for all the support you have given to us as a school and to your children to enable them to complete their online learning. You have all being doing an amazing job.
Compared to the very first lockdown we currently have a considerably higher number of children in school which means every member of staff is allocated full time to a bubble. Staff are also now lateral testing twice weekly which is impacting on our staff capacity.
We have done our best to try to accommodate as many requests for places as possible as we appreciate how difficult it is for you all. As part of our risk assessment we set up our classrooms following public health’s social distancing guidelines to ensure the safety of everyone in the class. Our classrooms are all different shapes and sizes meaning each classroom can accommodate a different number of children. We have tried to keep numbers as low as possible, however requests have continued to come in with many more following the Government’s recent announcement. Whilst I want to be able to accommodate everyone’s request, I am sure you appreciate that the safety of pupils, families and staff must take priority.
We cannot lose sight of the fact that we are still in the midst of a global pandemic and the aim is to reduce community transmission. I feel we are now at a point in school where we have reached the limit of our safe capacity of children in every bubble in school. The Local Authority are aware of our current position and are also sending out a letter asking parents to keep their children at home if they can. I need you to appreciate the difficult position we are in as a school and hope you understand that I need to keep our community safe. If anyone’s circumstances have changed and they no longer require a place in school please notify us.
We are doing our best to support families who are struggling, offering workbooks, phone calls etc. We are looking at ways to provide more activities to children that do not always involve screens which may relieve some pressure.
We provide daily the quantity of work set out by the Government however if you feel the amount of work being set is unachievable in your given circumstance please only do what you can. This is why we are calling regularly to support not only the children but yourselves to make this difficult situation work for everyone. Everyone’s experiences are different and we need to be kind to each other and ourselves.
Thank you once again for your continued support.
